On 29th of January 2015, UPM’s “Sichuan Rural Poor-Household Biogas Development Programme” (PoA) has successfully included a new batch of 14 Component Project Activities (CPAs). As a consequence, more than 64,000 additional low income Sichuan rural households are using the advanced biogas digesters as well as the convenient and smoke free cook stoves purchased with support by the PoA.
Combined with the 73 CPA subprojects already included before, a total of 87 CPAs save GHG emissions and generate Gold Standard CERs within this PoA. These 87 CPAs enable almost 400,000 poor and underprivileged farmer families in remote areas of Sichuan to produce and use their own climate-friendly renewable energy and become independent from costly, dirty and unhealthy fossil fuels.
By adding 14 new CPAs we consequently keep on scaling up our Sichuan Household Biogas PoA to one of the world’s largest and most successful programmes for climate change mitigation and sustainable development within the frameworks of the CDM and the Gold Standard. - Martin Dilger, Managing Director of UPM
