Today, UPM obtained the Gold Standard registration approval for its Xuyong Household Biogas Gold Standard Project in China.
The project target is to support 2,000 poor Sichuan farmer households by installing efficient biogas digesters on their premises. These proven and reliable systems reduce methane emissions originating from the widely used pits to store animal manure and provide the households with clean biogas for cooking, heating and lighting.
UPM’s Xuyong Household Biogas Gold Standard Project has been validated by The Gold Standard Foundation. During the 10 years crediting period it is estimated that the project will generate GHG emission reductions of approximately 40,000 t CO2e under the voluntary Gold Standard. First credit issuance is expected by the end of 2012.
