UPM is pleased to announce that its award-winning GS CDM Sichuan Household Biogas PoA has avoided 3 million Tons of GHG emissionssince its establishment. UPM PoA is the first CDM household biogas PoA to reach this impressive CO₂emission avoidance milestone worldwide and the second of all PoA registered under the CDM. The GHG avoidance is equivalent to almost 78 million tree seedlings grown for ten years.

UPM Sichuan Household Biogas PoA is currently undergoing its 3^rdverification process and is expected issuance of more than 800,000GS CER in Q2 2017.  The programme includes more than 400,000 low-income rural households in southwest China. The installation of bio-digester and smoke-free biogas cook stove allows each household to avoid around 2tCO₂e each yearly.  It was registered under the CDM in 2012 and under the Gold Standard in 2013.
