From October 1 to 3, 2024, a consulting team comprising experts from UPM Umwelt-Projekt-Management GmbH and INTEGRATION Umwelt & Energie GmbH facilitated a conference and two workshops on “Biogas in the Textile Industry in Bangladesh – Feasibility and Opportunity” in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Special thanks go to Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and RMG Sustainability Council (RSC), the organizers of these events.

These events marked an essential milestone in a study assessing the feasibility of biogas implementation in Bangladesh’s textile industry. The study, ongoing since March 2024, is part of the project “Skills for Self-Monitoring and Compliance with Clean and Fair Production in the Textile Industry (SCAIP),” overseenby Mr. Shamsul Arafin from GIZ.

The team has conducted extensive research and visited several factories. During the one-day conference and two-day workshop, preliminary results were shared with various textile industry representatives. The valuable input received from participants will now shape the finalization of the study.

Stay tuned for the publication of this important feasibility study, which promises to shed light on the potential of biogas technology in Bangladesh’s textile sector.
