The Hawa Energy Wind Farm Project is located in Jhimpir, near Nooriabad, District Thatta, Sindh, Pakistan. The project owner is Hawa Energy (Private) Limited. The project comprises the installation of 29 wind turbines General Electric (GE) Turbines of 1.715MW each. These provide a total installed capacity of 49.735MW (GE 1.715MW*29 WTGs) with a predicted power supply to the grid of 170.777GWh per annum, which replace power generation of those fossil fuel-fired power plants delivered to the national grid under the baseline scenario. The project has achieved full commercial operation since 15/03/2018. It’s estimated that the project is estimated to generate 85,946tCO2e emission reductions per year and the total emission reductions 859,460tCO2e in the fixed 10-yr crediting period.
“Today, we celebrate the successful registration of Hawa wind power carbon project with the Global Carbon Council, which is the first in Pakistan. It is not just a milestone; it is a testament to the unwavering commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable practices. UPM has been developing climate mitigation projects in the field of renewable energy since 2012 in Pakistan. Our endeavor highlights the potential for private sector initiatives to drive positive environmental impact. When the GCC was founded in 2016, it was the first global standard for carbon credits from the Global South. UPM wanted to support this initiative from the outset and was able to successfully develop its first project under this standard with the Hawa Energy. This is a crucial step in ensuring that Pakistan meets its sustainable development goals and plays a proactive role in preserving the environment for future generations. Together, we are forging a path towards a greener, more sustainable future.” - Martin Dilger, Managing Director of UPM
About the Global Carbon Council (GCC)
The Global Carbon Council (GCC) is the first international carbon credit and sustainable development program, based in the Global South. It was established (as Global Carbon Trust) by the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD) in 2016.
The GCC Program contributes to a more sustainable and low-carbon future, by registering high-quality projects from around the world that have demonstrated their additionality in the reduction or removal of greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions, while ensuring that project construction and operations do not cause any net-harm to the environment and society.
